Whew! What a whirlwind the past few months have been! Seriously, my head is spinning. 

So many major changes and wonderful opportunities are happening in the life of Kim Hoegger HOME. I am trying to keep you updated via the blog so stay tuned for more exicting news and happenings.

Today, I wanted to update you on the progress at our little Guesthouse in Osage Beach. It is coming along beautifully even on a skinny budget :)

Since we talked last about the Guesthouse, much has changed. Floors have been striped and refinished with a stunning Minwax Weathered Oak...amazing! And yes, you can get it at Home Depot! That's the plan here remember lol. 

I dont have a good pic of that yet because the floors are still covered up but I will do the big reveal soon so stay tuned for that!

Here's a small peek...you cant really see the beautiful gray streaks in this pic but it is amazing, trust me!

That color on the walls is Sherwin Williams Gratifying Green. I would give you the number but I am at the airport awaiting my flight home and done have that with me. It's a wonderfully fun, cool, clean color. Just perfect for this little guestroom. 

I went out on a limb with the colors in the Guesthouse. Rather than paint everything white like I did in the main house, I painted every wall a soft pastel color. Everyroom feels clean and cool...perfect for 90 degree days on the lake. Here's a peek at the colors...

Gratifying Green...Pure White on the trim(my favorite white). Thinking about this quilt...love, love, love!

Below is the stairwell painted in SW Waterscape with Pure White on the trim. Loving the last minute beadboard detail we added to spice up the staircase.  

Take a look at this!!! My hubby had a really cool wave material left over from a previous job and offered it for the front of the kitchen island. I was going to do beadboard but the wave turned out great!! LOVE IT!

Paint on the island wave is SW Raindrop(I believe, need to verify is someone is really interested in using the color, shoot me an email)

Below is a closeup of the kitchen backsplash. An adorable, fresh selection from Lowe's. Email me for specifics please(remember I am at the airport, lol)

Below is the dining room table fixture. Isnt it fun! I ordered this online at West Elm, great price of only $109, love a good clearance sale!

This is a Lowe's fixture that I loved for the Staircase area but didnt want the black. Painted it SW Pure White, now I love it!

This is the downstairs Master Bedroom painted in SW Butter Up, a really cheery color that I chose because of the location of this room. It is a basement room which tended to be dark so the brightness of this color will balance the room. This is not a color I would have chosen for the upper floors of the Guesthouse. It would have appeared almost neon and overpowered everything else. The bright, cheery yellow lightens and brightens the basement area nicely, although my job foreman is still doubting that I can pull this room together, haha. Exercise caution you when choosing and using yellow. Choosing the right yellow for a room can be tricky. Dont hesitate to call me to discuss yellows. It's better to ask than to have to repaint :)

Ok, so that's it for now. Lots of work going on there this week and they should be ready for me to start moving in the furniture next week!! So exciting! Still have to select some wallpaper and a few last minute things so I better get busy!

I am spending the week at the Lake and working hard to pull everything together for my first photo shoot on Tuesday. I am so excited but "Man o' Man" the work that goes into things behind the scenes!!! I have been shopping and gathering last minute finishing touches for a week! Exhausting but exhilerating and way too much fun! Wish I had thought to take a few snap shots of my shopping carts the last few days, you would have loved it! I have been to HomeGoods about four times checking to see if they had anything new I could use, and then Target of course for kitchen what nots. Hit all the antique stores in town and found some fabulous treasures which you will see soon enough in the photos :) Then...yesterday, my daughter Kelli and I headed to St. Louis, a three hour drive, to shop Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware and a few yummy local shops. Had a great time singing and laughing in the car and the shopping was of course, amazing!! Definately worth the drive!

I LOVE Blue, all shades and textures of blue, especially when decorating by the water. I have had more fun with the color scheme of the lake house. Every room has blue in it in some way, some where. Even my yellow room has a touch of aqua. I also love anything nautical or beachy so that has really been fun too! But, I have had to use much restraint in staying away from too many things "beachy" as this is a lake house and to me, decorating with coral and sea shells at the lake just doesn't feel authentic. Although, when the alternative is everything "fishy" I tend to opt for the seashells. LOL

Found lovely things at both Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. Enjoy both of those stores so much! One thing to remember when decorating with either is not to go for the WHOLE look. Know what I mean? It's one thing to use a pillow or a beautiful set of fabric covered desk boxes, but to replicate the entire room display is not desireable. Make sure you are decorating so that your space reflects your style, not theirs. It needs to be you, not Pottery Barn. 

For example, I  bought these fabulous indigo linen pillows shown below. I am going to be using them in a loft area on a daybed. I added them to an assortment of pillows I have collected and they fit in perfectly. They bring a touch of the classic style of Restoration Hardware to my daybed but it totally looks like me! I added florals(of course) and a plaid to the mix, softened it up with an eyelet lace euro and there you have it! 

Aren't these linen coeverd desk boxes gorgeous? Another lovely item I purchased from Restoration Hardware. Yet again, I placed them on my desk with many other things that reflect my personality; a beautiful white shell vase with a white magnolia in it, a crystal lamp and a mercury glass container. All me...

Sorry for the poor quality of this pic but what a gorgeous bed! Beautiful pale blue and navy...I am in love with this! But, for me, there would have to be a floral print mixed in I am most certain.

Blogfest 2012 was amazing! And being in NYC was the icing on the cake! Breathtaking views, spectacular venues and fabulous celebrity designers, panelists and the warmth of the Kravet family made my four days in NYC some of the best in my life! Who could ask for more! I was in Design Heaven!

It was such an honor to be a part of such a wonderful event. I was truly awestruck by the event and the people that made it possible. Thank you all so much!

House Beautiful's Editor in Chief, Newell Turner, has challenged us to blog about our "A-Ha Moment" and I am so excited to participate in the challenge.

I would have to say that my inspiration over the past year has been the renovation and redesign of our Lakehouse in Osage Beach, MO. I don't think I have ever been so moved by a project. From the moment we looked at the property 3 years ago until the day we completed construction, I have been magically captivated.

The house has seen brighter days but the property was breathtaking with towering trees and spectacular 180 degree views of the lake from sunrise and to sunset. Twelve months of grueling renovation and rebuilding have been worth every minute and every ounce of energy spent. The end result is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined!

To say that it is a transformation is an understatement. It is a dream come true! What my husband and I have realized throughout this project is that we both love what we do and we have been enormously blessed to be a part of an industry that we love and to live the dream!

To finish a project of this depth and to love the end result is my "A-Ha Moment". I dont think I could ask for anything more than to be right where I am today. To be able to sit in any room in this amazing house and see the sunrise, sunset and the beautiful lake is such a gift and we are ever so grateful.

I dont want to give away too much with pics of the interior as it is being photographed soon but here is a shot of a portion of the sunroom prior to completion. The view is breathtaking and offers 180 degrees of lake with no other house in view!!! This is my "A-Ha Moment"....hope it inspires you to take a chance and find your "A-Ha Moment too!

It's 9:15 pm here and I am calling it a day. WHEW!! Another wonderful day in NYC!

I slept in today since events for Blogfest didnt start until 12:00pm. So nice and awaking to the rain made it even nicer. I LOVE the rain and the thunder. Something about it is soothing and comforting to me. So waking to the sound of thunder and rain made me smile. Made some coffee, checked my email, my financials, facebook, etc. etc. Then showered and headed downstairs for something to eat. I landed in the hotel restaurant called TOSHI'S Living Room. 

I noticed another blogger standing alone and ordering a bagel. I decided to introduce myself and asked her to have breakfast, or should I say brunch, with me. I am so glad I did! It was Erin of House of Turquoise!! We had a wonderful brunch and had so much to talk about. Check out Erin's wonderful blog @ www.houseofturquoise.com

After lunch, I headed over to ICFF at the Jacob Javits Center. ICFF is the International Furniture Show. It was a lot of fun and there was so much to see. 

Next on the agenda was the Blogfest Opening Party and Tour of the Kips Bay Decorators Showhouse www.kipsbaydecoratorshowhouse.org

This was out of this world amazing!!! The best designers in the US creating rooms in two NY apartments. OMG!!

Yes, the Charlotte Moss! www.charlottemoss.com It was one of the most beautiful rooms in the house and my photos do not do it any justice. It was like being in a european garden. I loved it! Notice the preserved boxwood on the wall behind the sofa, gorgeous.

And yes, this is me and Charlotte. Yay! I have followed her work for years and it was so nice to meet her. She was so candid and funny and her work was truly breathtaking.

What a wonderful day in NYC! I am already having such fun! I arrived around 1:00 NY time and headed to the Flatiron Hotel. A newly renovated property located in the heart of the Flatiron district. Such a beautiful hotel.

My room is dreamy. It is decorated in gorgeous tones of tangerine and gold with a touch of key lime. Dreamy!

There is a two story aquarium in the lobby and one little guy just wanted to talk...lol. He kept following me and stopping to chat :)

After I settled into the hotel, I ventured outside the hotel into the surrounding neighborhood.

I ran across The Eataly by Mario Batali. What a wonderful place. I didnt know where to shop first. 

Yummy chardonnay and fresh baked bread with a wonderful olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Tomorrow I am headed to NYC for BLOGFEST 2012 and I am so excited I can hardly wait! Blogfest is a three day tour featuring the country's best shelter magazines; Veranda, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Trad Home along with A-list design celebs and breathtaking venues. Three days in NYC with the most amazing designers and magazine editors, who could ask for more? Oh and the Kips Bay Show House...cant wait to see it and share it with you.

Wow, what a week this has been! I am glad it's Friday! Headed to the Lakehouse this weekend with my hubby to check in on the Guesthouse renovation. Can't wait to bring back pictures for you! So much has been done I can hardly wait to see it myself!

So, here I sit eating Raisonets and drinking a glass of 14 Hands 2010 Chardonnay, my favorite everyday white wine. Nice dinner right? It will do for a lazy Friday night and if I am really hungry later, I picked up some wonderful dinner items from Eatzi's this afternoon...Terriaki Salmon, etc. But, the raisonets and wine will do for now :)

I have been pondering for quite some time about painting the walls in my Kitchen, Keeping room and Family room. And I mention them all because all the walls are connected in some way and there is no breaking point. Darn. So, it's been a quite the process. To paint or not to paint, where to stop the paint, can I paint the oak cabinets and the island cabinets? The latter was a big NO from my hubby because he loves the wood grain. What is it with men and wood grain? I just don't get it...nature? Idk, but anyway, we are keeping the wood and there is soooo much of it! So, I needed a paint to brighten the now cream walls. So, I am thinking Green...and maybe Sassy Green!!

Today on Facebook my post read "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures." Proverbs 24:3-4. This is a passage of scripture quoted by Leah Richardson in her new book Interior Wisdom. Such a lovely book with so many inspiring ideas and scriptures.

Proverbs 24:3-4 is a scripture that I hadn't read before I bought the book but now it is a favorite of mine for sure. I love how it inspires us to create a beautiful home through wisdom, understanding and knowledge.

"I can search the world over for beautiful things to fill my home and my heart, but until I recognize and appreciate that what is truly beautiful lies within me- I will never find it."

Leah

Finding Leah's book has come at a very special time for me in my business and my personal life. Through her words and her work, I have begun to see the beauty in mine. I have a new found energy and passion for what is truly important to me and am fueled by the grace of God to take on new challenges and ventures that are set before me.

In the coming weeks and months, you will begin to see changes in Kim Hoegger HOME. Watch closely as you don't want to miss any of the details!

Steve and I ventured to Home Depot while at the Lake last week for Spring break looking for kitchen and bathroom cabinets and this is what I was able to find. Sort of excited about them! I love a challenge!

For the Kitchen, I selected Home Depot's standard "in-stock" white cabinets. A great value at only $2500 for the entire Kitchen!! Definately a difference from my DuraSupreme Custom cabinets in the Main house but a very pretty and extremely reasonable alternative. 

As for the Bathroom, it was a little more challenging because we were dealing with existing spaces and the sizes were odd. But, with a little help from my "handyman" hubby, I was able to configure the spaces. I chose Home Depot's St. Paul Valencia in Black. Lovely cabinets. I havent used black cabinets before especially in a Cottage setting so I am looking forward to pulling it all together!

More to come! Moving on to the bathroom walls & floors next. Need to use up some left over tile from the Main house. YAY! I have a 3x6 white subway tile from the Kitchen that I will be using in the GuestHouse Kitchen and a beautiful pebble tile and 6x6 tumbled travertine from the Master Bath that I will be using in the Master Bath in the GuestHouse only this time with the black cabinets above. Can't wait to see it all together!

For those of you following the LakeHouse remodel and now the GuestHouse remodel, here are the "Before" & "After" photos of the LakeHouse now almost complete, still working on the finishing touches inside and landscaping starts this week, YAY!

As you can see, it was quite the undertaking but a magnificent transformation! Where there's a will, (and a very nice budget) there's a way! Now for the GuestHouse; crossing my fingers that it turns out just as nice for half the price! LOL

We completed our lakehouse in 2010. It is a gorgeous place! The perfect location, the perfect point on the lake with the Sun rising in one window and setting in another...truly breathtaking. It was a dream project! French limestone and dark, hand-scraped hardwood floors, beautiful Bianca Antica granite countertops...dreamy! Check out the pics on Houzz in our portfolio!

Then we bought the house next door to serve as the Guest House. Wow! What a project this is going to be! My hubby wants to keep the cost low as we may tear it down in a few years and rebuild. So, Home Depot is my budget and it's going to be a lot of fun trying to stay true to that type of budget. No custom cabinets, no french limestone, no hand-scraped hardwoods. Here we go...

LOL, quite the "fixer-upper" isnt she? I have my work cut out for me that's for sure!

This is the existing kitchen. Definately taking out the ceiling and moving some windows. Existing wood floor stops at the kitchen. :( Was hoping we could have hardwoods throughout. 

The Living room which is also connected to the Kitchen and the Dining room. At least I have hardwood to work with here! Yay!

She really needs some TLC :) Off to Home Depot and probably Lowes too! More pics later of my finds and progress!

I am in love with this orange door! And I must say, the green planters too! What a fabulous combination of color, so inviting. I can only imagine what is behind this lovely door. Let's go inside...

I feel sure that behind this door is an absolutely divine entry hall. I see black and white tile floors and an eclectic mix of modern and traditional furnishings.

Hope this post finds all of you rested and doing well after a wonderful weekend. And if your weekend was crazy busy with soccer games and birthday parties, maybe this post will give you some much needed time away from your busy world.

While reading other blogs and mulling through ten thousands emails last night, I ran across some fabulous new wallpapers from Thibaut and wanted to share them with you. Wallpaper is one of my favorite things! I have been in love with it since I can remember and it's all because of my Grandmother's living room. It was covered in the most gorgeous dark green wallpaper with pink and white cabbage roses. Absolutely gorgeous! Breathtaking really...I still dream about that wallpaper and fondly remember the days in her big white house. My Grandmother's taste was impeccable and each room was elegantly decorated. Hide and seek in her house was so much fun! I miss that house, and I miss her dearly.

Thibaut does an amazing job putting together beatiful collections of papers. Take a look at some of their newest patterns. I hope you will love them as much as I do!
